Professor Wang is Vice-Secretary-General of the Design Education Association in the China Association of Higher Education, and serves as Director of the Intelligent Interaction Technology Working Committee of the China Electronic Video Industry Association, Deputy Director of the Digital Art Professional Committee of the China Image and Graphics Association, as well as Deputy Director of the Art Division of the Liberal Arts Working Committee of the National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Innovation Alliance. He has been elected as a Royal Society of Arts Fellow (FRSA) and appointed as a member of the Animation and Digital Media Professional Teaching Steering Committee of Higher Education Institutions at the Ministry of Education (2013-2023), the Human-Computer Interaction Committee Standing Committee at the China Computer Association, and the China Simulation Association Digital Entertainment Professional Committee.
Professor Wang has a wide range of research interests covering intelligent media interaction design, intelligent vehicle interaction design, emotional design, and art healing. He supervises research students on Design and Automotive Engineering. In 1999, he began his teaching career at Sun Yat-sen University and later joined the College of Arts & Media at Tongji University in June 2013. He has chaired over 30 projects, encompassing sub-projects of the National Key Research and Development Programme of China, National Science and Technology Support Programme, National High-Tech R&D Programme (863 Programme), key projects of the National Self Science Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation Programme of China, National Scholarship Council Fund Programme, the Natural Science Foundation Programme of Guangdong Province, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong Key Technology Breakthrough Programme.
Professor Wang has been granted 43 patented inventions and received the 2019 China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation Award, the Best Practice Case of User Experience Alliance China, and the Top 100 Award of the Belt and Road Innovation Design List's Academician Promotion Programme. He was awarded the Guangdong Ding Ying Science and Technology Award in 2012, the Second Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress in 2005 (ranked third), the First Prize of Ministry of Education's Scientific and Technological Progress (ranked third in 2008 and 2003, and second in 2001), the "Outstanding Paper in 2002" award of the British Literati Club, and the First Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (second in 2009). He also received the Citigroup Excellence Teaching Bonus in 2008.
