Hua Dong returned to Tongji University as a Professor at the College of Design and Innovation，following 12-year research and teaching in the United Kingdom (University of Cambridge, Royal College of Art, and Brunel University, London). She has extensive experiences of cross-cultural and interdisciplinary design research. As a Principal Investigator for a number of research projects in the UK (e.g. EPSRC, ESRC and TSB) and China, Hua has collaborated with engineers, artists and designers, business professionals from both academia and industry. She has published over 100 papers and is directly involved in the teaching of design at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Hua Dong founded the Inclusive Design Research Group at Brunel University and Tongji University. She is the international coordinator of the Inclusive Design Research Interest Group (InclusiveSIG), and serves as a council member of the Design Research Society (DRS). From Feb 2014, Hua Dong became the Dean of the School of Arts and Media at Tongji University, where she heads a multidisciplinary team of new media arts and technology, journalism and communication, radio, TV and film editing, dance, music and performance art.
Hua receives her first degree and MA from Tongji University, and PhD from University of Cambridge.
